Recipe - Egg free vanilla and chocolate zebra print sponge
If you want a sponge cake that is not just tasty and egg free but fun as well then this vanilla and chocolate zebra sponge cake recipe from OnlyEggless is probably what you have been looking for.
To get started we need to prepare your egg free cake mix as normal, half in vanilla and half in chocolate. You can make the mix yourself or buy our wonderfully easy Only Eggless cake mix in Vanilla, and Chocolate.
How to do it
The trick is when you pour the mix into the cake tin for baking, we need to put about the amount of an ice-cream scoop every time the pattern will be even.
Start with Vanilla and add a blob of the mix into the centre of the tin, then in the centre of that blob put a blob of chocolate mix, then vanilla, then chocolate and so on until your mix is finished.
You can see that the mix has spread to the edges of the tin in concentric circles. We must try not to mix it up any more or we won’t get the lovely zebra-like stripes! Now let's bake as normal.
Now we have to put the mix into the baking pan and put it into the pre-heated oven for around 25 minutes to bake in a temperature of 180-200 degrees. The mix will cover 1/3 of the pan and then it will rise.
After baking the mix for about 25 minutes we can take it out to have a quick look. To check whether it is properly baked or not. We can put a knife into the middle of the cake and take the knife out. If there is no cake mix on the sides of the knife, then it is properly baked. If it is not properley baked yet, then we have to bake the mix in the oven for a couple of minutes (less than 5 minutes) more.
